چکیده
Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. Worldwide, its incidence has increased substantially over the past 50 years. The Cancer Incidence in Five Continents report showed that the age standardised incidence of thyroid cancer in women rose from 1.5 cases/100 000 population in 1953 to 7.5 cases/100 000 in 2002, with a similar relative increase in men (fig 1⇓). Behind these averages hide important and surprising differences between and within countries. In the US, the incidence of thyroid cancer has tripled in the past 30 years, increasing from 3.6 cases/100 000 in 1973 to 11.6 cases/100 000 in 2009, making it one of the fastest growing diagnoses. By contrast, in Sweden, Japan, and China, the increase in incidence has been minimal. Not all thyroid cancers are equal

Introduction: Critical organs and structures may receive significant amounts of irradiation even if they are not the target of radiotherapy or located outside the treatment field. Although the sensitive thyroid gland and lens are not directly the targets of treatment, they can be affected by irradiation during the treatment of tumours in head and neck region. The purpose of thi...

Discrepancy between pre & post treatment WBSs (Low dose & high dose, respectively) is reported. The aim of this study was determination the post-treatment WBS role in the diagnosis of lesions not identified by the pretreatment one. In this study 94 patients (pts) with DTC were evaluated. The results of pre & post treatment WBSs were compared. Overall, 25.6% of pts revealed more positive l...
متن کاملEffective dose and thyroid cancer risk in panoramic imaging
Background and Aim: On panoramic radiographs, sensitive organs, including the thyroid, are exposed to radiation. Thyroid cancer is one of the most common cancers in Iran. That is why, in this study the effective dose and risk of thyroid cancer were estimated on panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods: Seventy GR200 thermoluminescence (TLD) dosimeters were used to estimate the absorbed dos...
